A message from Maxim CEO Brad Bennett
As CEO of Maxim Healthcare Services I hope that you will embrace - as I have - our commitment to setting the standard for quality and compliance in the home health care industry. Patient care is the heart of our business, and compliance is its backbone. Compliance is a fundamental part of our corporate mission and culture and crucial to our ability to keep Maxim as strong and prosperous as we are today.
Along with Maxim's numerous successes over the years, there have also been challenges, the most important of which is the challenge to maintain strict compliance with all laws and regulations. We are meeting these challenges head-on with a newly expanded, company-wide compliance initiative called MaxCompliance. This requires a commitment from everyone of us here at Maxim.
Maxim defines compliance as:
- adherence to all state/fed laws and regulations
- adherence to industry standards
- adherence to Maxim’s policies and Code of Conduct
In terms of patient care, it means:
- making sure care is medically necessary, properly authorized and covered
- it is delivered by qualified caregivers
- it is high quality
- it consistent with patient rights
- billings are properly and clearly presented and supported by appropriate documentation
- reimbursement is correct
- each facility is licensed and accredited
- there are no improper financial incentives that could exert inappropriate influence on the way we provide care.
Although compliance is a long-term, ongoing commitment, we have identified a number of near-and medium-term steps that we believe are critical to strengthening the foundation of compliance at Maxim. These steps, some of which are already underway, include:
- A “self-certification” process in which Maxim’s leadership will evaluate and report on certain key branch-level compliance issues.
- A comprehensive risk assessment process designed to identify the critical issues for our compliance program to address.
- A detailed assessment of our current compliance program elements to identify gaps and areas for potential improvement to adequately manage our compliance risks.
- The identification, prioritization, communication and implementation of compliance program improvements.
And, importantly, we are focusing our efforts on continual training of core compliance concepts applicable to all personnel regardless of specific job responsibilities. Through this training, we will reinforce employee responsibilities and make clear our compliance requirements and the need for faithful adherence to them.
At Maxim, we understand that compliance touches every aspect of our business; it is part of standard operational procedures for each and every employee. MaxCompliance will help us to make sure we consistently live up to our commitments to patients, insurers – and each other.
I thank you for your ongoing dedication and support, and look forward to a bright future ahead.
